On Friday, I met up with Jog Blog and Mary for a delicious afternoon tea. It wasn’t very diabetic friendly, but I had a lovely time and the nurse had said as a “one-off” not to worry. So I worried not and ate lots of delicious food. Cathy had a packet of Orgran Gluten Free Buckwheat Pancake Mix (phew, what a mouthful) in the cupboard that she donated to me to try.
For those of you with dietary restrictions, these will probably tick the boxes as they are vegan, gluten free, diabetic friendly, wheat free and are also apparently “delicious and nutritious”.
I beg to differ.
Boyfriend kindly made me some pancakes for my lunch on Saturday and topped them with delicious nutella.
So how were they? Bland, tasteless and dense. They tasted a bit like water, or at least they would taste like water if water was doughy. Blech. I ate a couple of bites and then had rye bread and cheese instead.
Boyfriend ate them though. He described them as “a bit bland and dense, but filling and mostly ok”.
I think in future, I’ll be sticking to banana pancakes. These bland buckwheat cakes may be a good fuel for a long run though, if you don’t mind tasteless dough. My recommendation is to go for afternoon tea instead.
