Jo Pavey: This Mum Runs book review

About a year ago, I bought This Mum Runs by Jo Pavey and finally got round to reading it last October. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jo a couple of times and she is a truly nice individual, so I was looking forward to getting stuck into her book. After all, we have a lot in common, right? We’re both mums We both run We’re both from the south west We’ve both run marathons And, errrrrrrrr…now I’m stuck. The book starts in 2014, recapping her 10,000m race at the National Championships, a trial for… View Post

Stop saying “I’m sorry” and just …

The great thing about running is that it’s for everyone and events like parkrun do a great job of encouraging everyone to go out and take part. Your time doesn’t matter. I’m a member of countless Facebook running groups, all of them supportive and inclusive. All runners are celebrated and from 3 hour marathon runners to 60 minute 5k finishers, everyone is applauded for their achievements. Running is a very personal sport. Reflecting on 2017

I thought about doing a round-up post for 2017. I know they are a bit cliché and every blogger is doing one, but truthfully, I enjoy reading them. It’s refreshing to read what people are proud of. I haven’t spoken about many of the changes of the blog, although if you follow me on social media, you will have picked up on bits and pieces. So here’s a recap on things that have been important to me… View Post

Prisoners on the run

I love the ethos behind parkrun. What started as 13 friends getting together for a 5k run in Bushey Park 2004 has gone on to become an incredible worldwide phenonomon. There is no doubt that it has inspired tens of thousands of people worldwide to get out and move. In addition to that, parkrun has inspired people to volunteer to help out with the running and organisation of these weekly, free events.     Every week, Twitter and Facebook celebrates the accomplishments of parkrunners everywhere. Whether it’s a 15 minute course record, or someone completing… View Post

I’m running (another) marathon

The thing is, I just need to decide which one. I want to run another marathon. I want to get under 5 hours. I was hoping for a London place, but that didn’t happen. So I’m now overdosing on race reports and trying to decide which to do.     At the moment, I’ve narrowed it down to the following:   Belfast Marathon I love Belfast. I lived there for 3 years and it’s a brilliant city. I wasn’t a runner when I lived there, so the idea of running the city appeals. It would… View Post
